When is Body House coming out?
It already did. Body House was the original title of Haunted. The publisher decided to change the cover and title at the last minute, but thanks to computers, which aren't as smart as they look, Body House may live on forever.

Will there be a sequel to Candle Bay?
Absolutely, but several projects will precede it.

Speaking of Candle Bay, did Amanda ever make a decision?
What? And ruin the sequel?

Do you pattern your characters on real people?

No. Not the main characters, although minor ones frequently start with a resemblance to an actor or "type" until they develop themselves, or unless I'm horsing around, as with blond, straight-haired Carol Anne in candle bay, who has a penchant for saying "They're here." The only major exceptions would be the hero of thunder road (coming in 2004), who purposely plays up his resemblance to Gary Cooper in cowboy mode and Ori Darling in candle bay, who wants to look like Brando in The Godfather, but really resembles Robert DeNiro. Sometimes I recognize characters long after a book is done. Amanda in candle bay was never described physically, but I recently recognized her - she's Rene Zellweger. That was a huge surprise. There are always some "walk-ons" by friends. Candle's Douglas Harper was the biggest walk-on a friend has ever made. In more ways than one.

How many pen names have you used?
Seventeen, but Chris Curry is probably the only recognizable one. P. Brown Wrapper, Mike Hunt, Seymour Balls (in collaboration with Claude Balls), Etta Biggin, and Asa Cracker are some of the others.

How many books did you write as Chris Curry?
Four. Winter Scream and Trickster, the first two, are out of print, but occasionally turn up in used book stores. The second two, Panic and Thunder Road, are also out of print as Curry books, but are alive and resurrected (or will be) under the name of Thorne. Panic has been released as Bad Things (March 2002) and in 2004 (I think), Thunder Road will be reprinted, probably with its original title.

Can I send you books to autograph?
No, but you can get autographed copies almost anytime from several bookstores. Dark Delicacies (darkdel@darkdel.com) in Burbank, California, usually has some, including out of print books. When I have signing dates set up, I'll announce them here, on the bulletin board, and in the newsletter. You can preorder personalized copies of books at those times. Finally, if you send bookplates (or labels) to me in care of Kensington Publishing (850 Third Ave, 16th floor, NY, NY, 10022 (kensingtonbooks.com)) with a self-addressed stamped envelope, they will be forwarded to me, but be patient. Anything that involves snail mail and me is bound to take a while.

How can I find your out-of-print Chris Curry books?
Check with Dark Delicacies (darkdel@darkdel.com ). If they're out, check book dealers online and try your local used book stores. Online, you may find some listed at Amazon, but there are many independent dealers, such as darkpages.net, to search on. Google is a great place to start a search.

What advice do you have for a beginning writer?
What advice are you looking for? This question and all its kin arrive in my mail every day and if I answer them all, I won't have time to write my own books! My short overall answer is write, write, write, and read books on writing. Join a writer's group - many Barnes & Nobles and Borders Bookstores sponsor them. The Writer's Yearbook will tell you about getting published and Christopher Vogler's The Writer's Journey is my favorite book on writing itself. Having said that, if I hear from enough people, I'll be happy to start a FAQ page on writing on this site.

Do you do booksignings or give talks or interviews?
Yes. Personal appearances are generally confined to Southern California due to time constraints, but radio or online appearances are unlimited. If you're a book dealer or someone else interested in arranging an event or interview, just drop me an e-mail.

What's your workday like?
I unlock the door to my lead-lined office and plug leads into the sockets implanted in my skull. Then the Floating Brain from the planet Rectalia 13 begins to channel the day's work. Sorry, but the truth is boring. I turn on some low noise to drown out real noises, sit down with my laptop and my lap cat and listen to them purr under my touch. At first, it's slow-going because my brain intensely dislikes being forced to think before noon, so I placate it with easy jobs like business and e-mail. After twelve, it begins to cooperate. I write until the dinner hour, whatever it turns out to be, then usually turn the machine back on and work hard or hardly work, depending on this and that. The closer the deadline, the later I work until it turns into an endorphin-fueled all-nighter lasting maybe forty-eight hours. After than, I spend another twelve hours giggling at anything. Then I pass out for another twelve, and when I wake up, it starts all over again with a nice new project.
