Hey Tamara- I stumbled on your Sorority trilogy in the supermarket and bought all three right then. Had never heard of you before, and I'm not sure what attracted me to them, but I'm glad I was. I couldn't put them down. Your style of writing is very addicting. I'm anxious to read your other books. Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with all of us. A New Fan, Amber

Hey!! I just wanted to say how great the 3 sorority books are, I really really love the last one, that was so awsome!! You're really a wonderful author!! But, may I ask you a question? Do you really beleive in ghosts and witchcraft and all that stuff?? I think that kind of stuff is really cool!! Are you coming out with any other new books?

Alex, I don't believe in or disbelieve in anything. I think possibilities are endless. I have seen many things that defy normal explanations, and while I have theories, I don't really know anything. (I think quantum physics will dignify the paranormal to some extent, some day.) I'm not a practitioner of any spiritual arts, but I think there are many paths to the same ends and that these work for many people. Everything is valid, whether I personally believe in it or not. My path is one of observation, strewn with nuts and bolts and a little bit of glee. As for ghosts, I actively seek them out. I've seen all sorts of phenomena, from apparitions to poltergeists, but I've never experienced one that I'd call a "spirit." To me, ghosts are echos or recordings, energy phenomena. By that definition, ghosts exist, in my opinion. But to me a ghost is not a synonym for soul or spirit. However, I'm aways on the lookout for something that displays separate intelligence not attributible to the influence of living minds. I've been nuts about the occult all my life. It's so much fun to know there will always be mysteries to explore. My next book will appear in July. It's called Thunder Road and is set in a fictionalized wild west amusement park in the California desert. It involves serial killers, UFOs, and religious nuts. And cowboys. (It was originally my last Chris Curry book a few years ago, but this time it has a great cover and lots more people will see it.) The novel after that is still wrapped in mystery as I'm scribbling away, but expect ghosts and mysteries, on a pretty grand scale. After the holidays, we'll try to get the Thunder Road cover on the website. Meanwhile, you can preview it at www.horror-web.com by clicking on Written in Blood and Tamara Thorne.

Dear Tamara, I have seen ghosts/spirits always. since I was born.... I am intrigued by your profession.... At this time I am in Covina, CA, and go to "A Great Read" where I just purchased "Candle Bay". I'd love to meet you and exchange some ideas. Thank you for being the exciting author you are and entertaining all of us readers. Sincerely, Manju

I do signings in the Los Angeles area fairly often. Watch the newsletter (which will start appearing again any minute now) or the website (which should be updated slightly any minute now:-) for details. I know I'm doing a talk at a B&N in Rancho Cucamonga toward the end of January and I'm a guest at San Diego's Con-Dor at the end of February. Details soonish.

WOW! Just finished Winter Scream and Thunder Road! Trickster is on the way! GREAT BOOKS!

Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Wow, you found the oldies. Winter Scream and Trickster won't be in print again. Panic IS Bad Things, so you don't need that -- and Thunder Road is coming back out with a Marsden cover under my Thorne name next July. Thanks!

Hey Tamara...I am just getting done reading your second book 'Haunted' for the second time. It's my favorite book and I was wondering if your other books are similar to that or have as good quality as it does. I'm also an aspiring writer and you give me lots of inspiration. When i'm bored I just grab the book and read and it really helps to pass the time! Thanks for writing such an awesome book!

Haunted was a true labor of gleeful love. The haunted house genre is my favorite but it's a tough one to write well, so I went for pastiche -- throwing in every beloved cliche I could come up with. I had a blast and I'm goad you did too. As for my other books, the quallity you perceive probably depends on your interest in the topic I pick. Some books are heavier, like Bad Things or Eternity. Others are lighter, like Candle Bay and The Sorority. Just peruse the book descriptions for what interests you. My only writing tricks are to write only what I want to write about and to stand back and let the characters take over. They really know what they're doing, so I try not to interefere:-)

I fell in love with your books, and over the last couple months, I've read everything you've wrote. So looking forward to your next one. Meanwhile, do you have any authers that you would recommend? I like the style of books you write and would like to keep up this healthy habit I've gotten into recently.

You might like Douglas Clegg, Robert McCammon, Christopher Lamb, James Blaylock (the latter two aren't categorized as horror in bookstores -- possibly sci fi or fantasy or fiction). Maybe some other readers can list some books. Anyone?

Hi Tamara! Haven't heard from you in a while. Hopefully, that's a good thing and that you're busy working on your next masterpiece. I noticed that all your responses to messages on here are dated 1/1/2001. That's eerie! In true Tamara Thorne fashion of course. ;)

Hi Kevin, Yes, I'm writing my socks off. Thanks re the reply dates -- hadn't noticed I was in the Twilight Zone. Well, it's really a vortex, I guess. . . Oh my god, it's 1968, I'm wearing tie-dyed paisley clothes. . . Help!

Hi, Tamara.I'm a girl from Romania who likes horror books but I couldn't find in my country yours. How can I buy them because they seem very interesting?Thank you.

Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Online is the best way I know of to get books that aren't published in your country. www.amazon.com is the biggie (and amazon has other online stores specifically for the UK -- take a peep at the main site, I'd imagine you can find the best outlet listed there. You can also contact specialty stores online. My personal favorite is Dark Delicacies. They have all my books, mostly signed, too. Email them with questions at darkdel@darkdel.com. Thanks for asking!

Tamara, I have just recently been introduced to your writting abilitites and am very impressed it has been a long time since I have wanted to sit down and read anything a friend gave me the books and said she had no real interest in them I just told her she needs to take a second look at the books and give them a chance before discarding them I would love to know how you come up with your information. Some of my friends and I are always looking for a good scary ghost story. Some of us are inclined to see things others can't myself included and all of this is without the help of drugs we all practice meditation and relaxtion to channel our senses to aquire the images and visions we have ahd some of us have even been inclined to attempt wicca but not all of us. We would like your opinion and would be very grateful for your insite. Thank You Jacynda Kaufman, Texas

Hi Tamara, You have truly given me the love of books. Haunted was the first novel that i have ever read. I went to a bookstore in search for a gift. I fell upon your book and i was so captivated by the title page and i knew i had to give it a chance, that maybe i could enjoy reading. I couldn't get enough of this novel and i have read it over again. Since then i started devouring books. Your characters are so well developped making me want ot learn more about them. Reading about the challenges they are facing, i am truly captivated by their lives. Keep up the wonderful work, and i am very much looking forward to reading your next novel. I absolutely love ghost stories, they give me the creeps.

Martine, Music to my ears. I love reading so it makes me have the warm fuzzies when someone says I, er, turned the page for them about loving to read. I'm endlessly surprised by what the characters say and do too. (I let them take over the books...)

Hello Tamara, I am so glad I discovered your work while trying out new authors. It can get monotonous reading the same writers over and over again and your work is a refreshing treasure that never fails to shock and surprise me. When I pick up one of your novels I can't seem to put it down. You are truely the new mistress of horror. Keep up the good work

Hi Tamara, Is there a book club edition of Samantha? Roberta

Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Yes, there is a book club edition of Samantha and the other two books in the trilogy. Doubleday, Mystery Guild, Venus, and I'm zoning on the name of the fourth big book club carrying them! all have them. All the clubs may not be releasing them in the same months though.

YOU are so goooooooood! I read at least 3 books a week - I've done so for over 40 years - and a good writer is such a find! I just finished The Forgotten and am getting ready to start the Sorority trilogy! I have read all your others MNUS CANDLE BAY - pleeeeeeeeeeeeease re-release it! It is no where to be found - I like NEW books and the only ONE available ANYWHERE is in Amazon Marketplace! Keep on keeping on!

Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Thanks, Catherine. Candle Bay and Bad Things have both recently run out of stock at the publishers -- you can probably find via Dark Delicacies (darkdel@darkdel.com) or used (amazon is good for finding used books inexpensively, or try searching on specialty book stores for new or used titles).
