Tamara, I wanted to thank you for writing books. I've only recently discovered
you and I am almost finished with my first Thorne book, Haunted. My god, this is
awesome stuff, your one of the best writers I've found since discovering Richard
Laymon, Bentley Little and Jack Ketchum a couple of years back. By far you are
my favorite. I've found all of your books on the Internet, including the ones
you wrote under a pen name, and have ordered them, I can't wait to read them
all. Thanks again for writing and keep the scarry stuff coming. Your New Fan,
George

I just finished reading your book Moonfall and absolutely loved it! I had never
read a horror book before and actually stumbled over it because of the cover. I
was really drawn to the building for some reason (I have this strange
fascination for old buildings! Can't really explain why) and was even more drawn
to the book by the first few pages. I love your work and can't wait to go out
and get another!

Thanks, Alison. I love the new covers too. They're photographs by Simon Marsden.
You can view his photos (and identify the unmooned-version of the Moonfall
cover, among others, including Thunder Road) at

Hello Tamara it is me again i went back to my bookstore to order a few of your
books Haunted and Bad Things while i was at school today my gradmother told me
that the bookstore called and said that they couldn't get ahold of one of the
books that it was discontinued and was no longer being published do you know
which book it is and if so could you please tell me where i can get it.
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Both those books are out of stock at the publisher's at the moment. Haunted is
scheduled to reprint in a few months. Bad Things will probably reappear before
long as well. If you check around on the net or at other bookstores, you're
likely to find both of them since they often have them in their warehouses after
the publisher runs out. You can probably find them in a local used bookstore and
certainly via Amazon.com's booksellers. Also, you can try emailing Dark
Delicacies to see if they happen to have it. (If they do, it's probably
autographed...) darkdel@darkdel.com

Hey Tamara. I'm reading your book "Panic" aka "Bad Things" It's really cool. How
did you think of the green men? When you were little did you think they were
real? Thanks much!
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
I'm a born skeptic -- I never even believed in Santa Claus -- but I discovered
green men early in childhood. I loved looking at tapestries in the museums and
quickly started spotting green men. That turned into lots of tall tales to scare
other kids with at twilight -- I loved to go outside and watch the bushes and
trees move in the breeze, see the faces form and move. I still do that. We're
pretty sure we have a few greenjacks at our place now, judging by the way the
lawn grows. . . Green men can be found everywhere. Artisans carved the nature
dieties into churches so that they could secretly worship their own gods when
the Christians came along and tried to change things. The nature god Pan is a
form of green man, with the goatish aspect -- the horns. And there's
Christianity's Satan. The gods of the old become the devils of the new.

I have been a fan of your genre since I was a child. I happened upon Haunted
(recommended by Barnes and Noble) and loved it. I've purchased all of your other
books (the out of print are getting pricey!) Keep up the great work. Your
writing is top notch and your stories are creative and unique. Aside from the
big names like King, Koontz, Straub, etc., are there any authors you would
recommend? Thanks
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Thanks Jackie. I've been a ghost-fan since childhood too. In the horror genre,
Robert McCammon is a long-time favorite of mine. Glen Hirshberg is wonderful,
Doug Clegg is excellent too. If you can find used Robert Masello novels, they're
well worth the hunt (and he'll have a brand new horror novel out in 2005!). The
classics -- Ray Bradbury, Roald Dahl (his adult stuff) and Richard Matheson --
never get old. Neil Gaiman's American Gods is one of my all-time favorites, and
Christopher Moore always delights when you're looking for something smart and
funny. George R.R. Martin's Fevre Dream is a major wowser, too. I tend to read a
lot of thrillers, usually techno or conspiracy-oriented, so I recommend Dan
Brown, Jeff Long, Caleb Carr and sometime, Lincoln and Child -- but be choosy
there. And my favorite writer (other than King) is completely out of the genre
-- Nelson DeMille. Try Plum Island for some tasty science-thriller action. Other
great spooky reads by authors who are usually more mainstream include Under the
Lake by Stuart Woods and The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons, My favorite
thing is a good ghost story, but those can be hard to find!

Hey there, I love your books, but I need to find Body House weather it is used
or not, could you help, I am trying to collect all your books, I find you are a
wonderful writer and enjoy your work. Thanks for your help
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Hi Karen, You've probably read Body House already! That was the original title
of Haunted. It was changed by the publisher at the last minute. If you can't
find Haunted at the moment, it's being reprinted soon. I think there are still
some copies in bookstore warehouses. Thanks for writing!

* Do we need an agent? Where do we find one? *How do we find a publisher? *Do we
blindly submit our transcripts to many publishers? ...Many questions!

See www.allaboutghosts.com, the Writer's Showcase link, for articles and Q&A
columns. A new one addressing this subject will appear there or at
www.allaboutghosts.net around April 1. Don't do anything blindly. Read. Writer's
Digest books, especially the Yearbook, are the best overall sources of
information. Or try a site like www.writersweekly.com. I believe that it (and
its free newsletter) have some of the advice you're looking for.

liked it!

I've just finished your "The Sorority" Trilogy! It was great! I was completely
hooked! I finished all three books in two and a half days! I couldn't put them
down! I love your books, and I love the way you write horror. How do you get
inspired? What's your inspiration?
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Glad you enjoyed. I wish I could write as fast as you can read:-). Inspiration?
I don't know. Partly an old story my mother told me about a town she lived in as
a child that was flooded to create a dam, and how she and my father went back on
their honeymoon and swam above the old town. They saw the trees and church
steeple. She told me how spooky it was. Another inspiration was getting to mess
around with Arthurian legend. And another was getting to mess around with Skull
& Bones-type secret societies in colleges. S&B is the infamous Yale secret
society that the Bushes and many other world biggies hail from. I just love
conspiracies. And green man mythology is a special pet. Add in too many viewings
of Animal House and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and there you have
inspiration. The characters do the rest. I never really know beyond the bones
what will happen -- I let them take over.

My music??? Sometimes I rewrite words to songs, and I've been known to riff
ragtime on my century-old piano now and then, but as a musician, I really
suck!:-P

I'm an avid reader, and you've become quite an inspiration to me. I'm working on
my first novel (thriller) and I'm getting close to completion. I've got no idea
how the publishing-phase works, or how to even begin. I'm flat broke! I can't
imagine how much I'd have to pay...any help? I'm sure you'll be too busy to
respond, but it was worth a try.
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Good luck, Dee. I write about writing at www.allaboutghosts.com. There are other
sites with lots more info on writing too and some of them are listed in some of
the articles or Q&A columns. (Look under the Writer's Showcase link for older
material. The newest articles can only be found by clicking on the home page
link of aag to get to them, since the site is in transit at the moment.

I usally just read Koontz, Straub, and King but now I found you. Sorry I took so
long. I'm hooked. Been driving the librarien crazy, getting her to order all you
books. Loved Eternity and the Sorority Trio. You newest fan. Thank you for
wonderful reading.

Thanks. I love driving librarians crazy that way!

I was wondering if you will ever go in to directing? You should make a movie out
of the sorrity books. Eve.merilnn and samantha.i think they would make good
movies. ~Dani
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Well, I'm a writer, not a director, but there's lots of interest in the Sorority
books and others, so cross your fingers! Thanks!

I just got around to finishing the Sorority Series which was awesome. The
Bookstore we have in town get shipments from your publisher so I can now get
other books by you without having to order them they said they are getting
Thunder Road which I look forward to after reading the preview in the back of
Sorority Samantha. I also had them get a shipment for me of Candle Bay and the
Haunted. I was wondering though if you have had any ghost like experiences. Keep
Writing and I Will Keep Buying Sincerely, Manuel Armijo
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Thanks, Manuel! Some of the books are low or out of stock at the publishers
right now. They'll be back. Candle Bay is one of them -- but lots of store
warehouses still have it. The publisher is also out of Bad Things and Haunted --
but again, many stores aren't. Haunted will be back in a few months, if you
can't get it. Ghost experiences? Yes, many! I hunt anomalies and test them (for
rabies and validity) frequently. If you search out some interviews, you'll find
references. Hopefully, I'll have a full list of such urls for you online soon. A
couple of my true experiences are in Gerina Dunwich's Witch's Guide to Ghosts
and Spirits. I also do frequent net chats about such things and if you check the
link on the home page, I'll be at a paranormal conference in April.

Hello Tamara I was wandering through a local bookstore when i came across The
Sorority Series I read the first book in about three days with my busy schedule
and look forward to reading the other two but i want to know what else i can
look forward to from you in the present and future i loved the book keep on
writing Sincerely, Manuel Armijo
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
This website will tell you about the past books. Most are usually available from
local bookstores (they can order if they're not in stock) or from online stores
like amazon.com. I believe the pubisher just ran out of Candle Bay and Bad
Things, so they may be tougher to find for a while. Upcoming is Thunder Road,
this July. After that, a new novel about ghosts based in some southwestern
history. That one remains a deep dark for the time being! Also slowly putting
together a peculiar bit on non-fiction on hauntings. And, any minute now,
Cemetery Dance's The Devil's Wine poetry anthology should appear. I've got a
hunka hunka burning poems in that one.
