Hi Tamara - I also just finished Thunder Road. What an excellent read! I
couldn't put it down. Ever since reading Candle Bay a few years ago, you've
become one of my most favorite authors. I can't wait for your next book!

Thanks, Cari! I really appreciate the kind words! Everyone, TamaraThone.com is
undergoing some changes and this guestbook is misbehaving. Until the new look
appears, it's better if you leave messages for me on http://grimmacres.com's
bulletin board/guestbook. Also, to subscribe to Drawn Quarterly, send an e-mail
with "Subscribe" in the subject line to me at Tamara@grimmacres.com. Everything
will be cool by November, but for now, if you've posted here and your message
hasn't shown up, try again at GA.com -- it probably met with an accident here!

Tamara, Just wanted to say Thanks for all the great nights of reading I have
enjoyed. I read Haunted last year, and just finished Thunder Road. I really
enjoyed both. I am hoping to find your entire collection soon so I may read them
all. Do you know if anyone is selling hard cover autographed books? I like to
have these for my favorites authors, which you have become #1 on the list! Also,
I noticed your website seems a little dated, if you ever need some free web
design help, just let me know! It's the least I can do considering the great
stories I have "lived" for $7! Thanks again, -Jamie.

Glad you enjoyed Thunder Road, Jamie. The Sorority is in hard cover via some
bookclubs -- I'm sure there are used copies out there if there aren't any from
the clubs (I honestly don't know if there are or not). The other books are
currently in softcover only. (Except for the Cemetery Dance poetry anthology,
Devil's Wine.) I sign books at Dark Delicacies (see the home page). They'll have
some signed ones in stock now, but I'll be back Nov. 20 to sign again -- so
ordering from them is the only sure way to get autographed or personalized
copies. Finally, thanks re the website. A new version of tt.com is in the works
and should debut soon. Meanwhile, you'll find more updated information
(especially on Thunder Road, Haunted, and Devil's Wine, as well more info on
radio shows and booksignings) at my other site
http://grimmacres.com.

Hey Tamara! I have just started on Thunder Road and of course, I can't put it
down. I found it under one of your pseudonyms. I was just curious to know: Why
do writers use pseudonyms? I know back in the old days, female authors had to
use them because they feared (and was probably right) that people would not buy
their books because it was written by a woman. I was just curious to know why in
this day and age, writers still used different names. Anyways, kudos to you for
Thunder Road. I love your writing style and am looking forward to new books!
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
There are lots of reasons for pseudonyms. You hit a bullseye with your first
guess -- I didn't want to be identified as female, so I used a gender-bender
(which would have been my name if I'd been born male) and my maiden name at
first. Another reason that applied is that I was writing horror for more than
one publisher at the same time -- usually that requires a name change. Finally,
some people have really bad names, you know, Mike Hunt, Seymour Balz, or maybe
something long and unprounceable that would look horrible on a book cover --
most people would probably want to change those kinds of names. Although it
might be worth it to become Mike Hunt just to giggle when people announce your
presence. "And now, Mike Hunt will read a passage from Why I Hate My Parents..."
;-)

I found "Bad Things" at my local library and am reading it now. I am thoroughly
enjoying it. I am having trouble finding "Haunted".

yours for details on how to find it. I hope it reprints soon since it's probably
my personal favorite! Thanks for writing! Tamara

Dear Tamara, Its me again I have been reading Eternity since early in the
summer with so many things going on I drifted away from reading. I just finished
it now that school has started up and all I am still trying to read all your
excellent books with the Sorority Trilogy out of the way, Haunted, Moonfall, and
Eternity I have decided that I am going to start reading Forgotten I know i
won't be dissappointed but when is the release of your next book so I can try to
finishing reading all the rest so I can get caught up with all your great
stories. Also some books I can't get ahold of like Bad Things and Candle Bay do
you know where I can get copies of these books. Thanks for the Great Stories,
Always a Fan Manuel

Manuel, Thunder Road has just come out, so you have plenty of time to catch up
on your reading before the next one appears. Candle Bay and Bad Things are both
currently out of stock at the publishers. I'd try checking local used book
stores or inquire at www.darkpages.net. Paula's stock may not all be listed
on-line, so email her from the website and tell her what you're looking for.
(You can also find the books from dealers on Amazon and B&N.com, but the prices
are getting more and more outrageous recently. While I firmly believe in
capitalism, the prices charged are frequently so high they're obscene, like
ticket-scalping. An author never sees a penny of that, only the person doing the
selling. www.darkpages.net and many other resellers (including many sellers on
Amazon or B&N, if they have the books) won't take you for a soaking. I'd hunt
soon, it's only going to get worse until they're reprinted, and I don't have a
date for that yet. BTW, I think HAUNTED has just been reprinted, so anyone
looking for that should find it online or in bookstores now or very soon.

I would like to say I enjoyed Haunted and Moonfall immensely. As a big fan of
ghost stories Haunted was able to awaken that which scared me as a child and
brought it back to stir up old memories. Thanks You! I would like to ask if
there are any plans for a reprint of Haunted as my existing paperback copy is
getting a little worn and worse for wear. As I have read it about a dozen times.
I have been unseccessful in finding another copy to replace it as it seems the
book is out of print. I would hate to not have a copy of this amazing novel as
it has become a trusted favorite when searching for something to read. Thank
You, Brendon Hilts

Brendon, A new release of Haunted is scheduled for release sometime during
September (it might be any minute now or may be nearer October, I don't know
offhand). You can check my publisher's website, http://kensingtonbooks.com for
details -- or just look it up on Amazon. Glad to give you good news!

Well, there goes my hopes on having Tamara Thorne help me out. The best writer
in the world, I think. So then if you could point me in the right direction.
Were do I start. I need to get copy written. Do you know of a place? Or can you
not give that info eaither. I hope you can, because I would love to start some
were. Your help would be an honer!!!!!!!!!!!
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
I don't have any precise info since I don't deal in those things myself -- I
stay holed up in my novels and leave the business end of things to those who
represent me -- otherwise, I'd never get anything done. However, I can point you
in the right direction. There's a website called http://writersweekly.com that
may be helpful. You'll also find many links to sites with writing tips and
members who are looking for other struggling writers for mutual critiqueing,
etc., at http://www.writing-world.com/links/writing.shtml. I haven't explored
either site myself, but friends tell me they're worthy. As for other advice, the
best thing you can do is write every day, read up on the business and how to
submit, and others with interests similiar to yours to interact and critique
with. Many B&Ns, Borders, and other bookstores have actual in-person writers'
groups that meet in their stores. If there's no group near you, and you'd like
it, talk to the store's public relations manager about it. Good luck!

Hi Tamara, I just got done emailing you but thought that you may like to read
one of my poems. Also anyone else that sees this post. Go to poetry.com Go to
find and type in Patience Dale. I hope you enjoy!!!
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
That's very thoughtful of you, Patience, but my attorney advises me not to read
any unsolicited material, and that must include poetry and stories. Good luck,
though; perhaps some other readers here will! enjoy reading your poem!

Tmaara, Thought you might like to know that I first heard of you in the most
recent issue of Cemetery Dance (#49); a very favorable review of "Thunder Road"
led me straight to the local Border's, where you'll be glad to know it was in
stock. (But no longer.) just fyi Keep up the good work. Rick
Response posted: 1/1/2001 by Tamara
Thanks, Rick! I appreciate that kind of info! I hope they get a few more in.
When a book sells out they often do!
